Conference Weekend

I always look forward to Conference Weekend. If I am really good, I prepare for it at least 2 weeks in advance because I know that is when the General Authorities are preparing their talks...and I want to be sure they have my prayers with them so they cover the topics I need the most help with :) Since Corban, watching conference has been somewhat of a hassle- taking him to the church doesn't last very long and listening on the Internet at home is a natural hardship. But this time it is different.
Jared, my oh-so-wise husband, that also just happens to be technically savvy, has made it possible to hook up my computer to the television. In the past few weeks this has been great for our guilty pleasure of watching "The Office" and "Life". Then it occurred to me on Friday, we can watch conference on the TV!!!! That was the greatest thought for that day! And of course Jared made it happen. And just like all those that have TiVo, we can also stop when we want or restart where we missed out. Don't get me wrong, going to the church is very spiritual and I usually am not able to fall asleep, but Corban makes you miss it anyway. This way, he had all his toys and household items available for his enjoyment. Actually, in the first session, he undid my house cleaning in all of about 10 minutes.
The bad thing about watching it at home is that it is really easy to get too comfortable. Both Jared and I fell asleep in the afternoon session, making it through the first hour. But, just like TiVo, you can also go back and watch it. Jared went to the Priesthood session, while I played with and got Corban into bed (YEAH! He went down easy tonight!). Unfortunately, right when he got home he got a phone call from an employee who was at work and sick so he had to go fill in for her. This was bad news...but I turned into good news because I spent that time listening to what I missed and re-listening to what I already heard.
I had this "whispering" in the first session that I should write down 5-10 things that really stick out to me from conference, post them in a conspicuous place so I read them often, and really make a difference in my life after all these spiritual messages. Actually, Jared and I are doing this together. I always try to rope him in on my GREAT ideas...in hopes that he will help me stick to it! So far this is what I have (granted, in summary form so you would have to listen to conference to understand where I am coming from):
Self Mastery: Provident Living-seeking to do the will of the Father that I might better control my wants; Reverence and Respect- showing this in the home and for others
Evaluate Self: Am I doing all that I can to be worthy of the comfort and protection of the Father for times of adversity? What is it that I need to work harder on to feel worthy? Diligent scripture study, Sincere prayer, patience with Jared and Corban
Temple Attendance: Make a specific goal, with a schedule, and don't allow anything to get in the way of that scheduled time. Jared and I are going to work out our times together so we can make this happen...at least individually if we can't make it work for us to go together.

Those are the main ones from today. Can't wait for tomorrow's!

I love conference weekend, too. I take notes so I can go back and remember the things that we are counseled to do. I'm so grateful for a prophet of God. In these crazy economic times, it's good to hear some words of hope and encouragement, as well as words of warning and preparation.

Great list. Those things stood out to me, too, almost like they were a common theme. Didn't you think?

SO! The real reason I'm commenting is that I read your sidebar. A GIRL! How exciting!!! Are you going to announce it on the My Family blog? Am I the last to know? WOO HOO! We're excited for you.
