I think today is the best Free Day we have ever had. We didn't even know until this morning, 9 AM, that we would be doing one. Ralph's grocery store is having their Grand Re-Opening TODAY...it was scheduled for the 25th back in June. And do they have the generosity of providing us with that information (even when we ask)? NO.

Luckily the day was planned the way it was: Jared and I were suppose to be going to an accounting meeting together, so he had planned on missing class. He went in to La Jolla GS to fix something prior to our meeting and I got a call from him saying, "Do you want to hear some bad news?" He proceeded with telling me about how he saw all these corporate people walking around and a lot of commotion going on so he stopped one of them and asked what was going on. "Our Grand Opening." "Today?" "Yes sir."
Second lucky thing is that Jared had the energy and the mind frame to figure out how we could pull it off. If you recall back in March my Superman post, that gives you an idea of what kind of preparation USUALLY goes into one of these days. So while I sat in a calm, productive meeting, Jared was running home, picking up banners and signs, making phone calls, and helping set up a store for a free event. I got out of my meeting around 11:15 am and things were already rock'n at our store! The few changes that we made for this event were: it was for a free Mini (rather than a small- specifically because we didn't have the yogurt back-up we usually have); if you wanted anything else you paid full price (this is how we usually make money and pay for the event...you have to give up something when you only have 2 hours to pull it together); we ended it at 8 pm (that was when Ralph's was wrapping up their event); and we didn't have the huge labor cost because we made do with what we could get in a few hours notice.
Stephanie, our Assistant General Manager, pulled the rest of the day off by getting staffing covered, and coming in and running the rest of the show from 2 pm on. This allowed Jared to still do his homework, watch Corban while I went to my Midwife appointment, and make it to his evening class. She is awesome being so willing to take on this challenge with such little notice...and not a single excuse or complaint! So how successful was it? Well, we gave out about 2,400 yogurts (that's what DM and PQ did this year with 2 weeks of advertising), and about 1/3 of the customers were new- not very many of them were college students. That is huge for La Jolla because we always figure the majority of our customer base comes from UCSD. Now only time will tell if this helps us in the long run!

I am just so glad that Jared decided to go into the store early today!

Worn Out

Jared was the lucky one to catch this photo op. I just had to smile when hearing the story because I was working.

Corban had spent the morning hanging out with the Garcia boys. Apparently they had a really great time. When Jared went to pick him up, he started running towards dad, and then suddenly turned around and ran the other way, hoping dad would chase after him. Jared brought him home and hoped to get a few bites of food into his belly before putting him down for a nap. Once moment Corban was awake and eating and the next moment he looked like this: I was infamous for falling asleep in strange places as a child. I didn't think Corban was anything like me because I have NEVER seen him fall asleep anywhere but his bed or the car seat. He ended up napping for 4 1/2-5 hours (Jared doesn't check the clock when putting him down like I do). What a great day!

This picture was taken this morning. We just started having him wear these shoes yesterday and everytime he sees them he wants them on his feet; hence, the onsie (pjs) with shoes. I love this boy!

This chair he is sitting in was one of my proud garage sale buys. He has loved it...and so have the kids that come to co-op.

Melt like a popscicle on the 4th of July

So we have had a great weekend! We forgot to take the camera with us for part of it, but it's ok...if a "picture" is worth 1000 words then i only have to write 6000 or so to make up for it.

Here are some pics from our good times:

Corban loved the corn. He also loved the corn part of the corn dog and the fried bloomin' onion. Yeah, not the healthiest day.

Spent part of the day at the fair with Brent, Jen, Issac and Connor Allen. We had fun mostly because we were with them.

Amanda wanted me to show what she looked like at 8 months. Pretty sexy, huh?

Check out Corban's mouth shape. He was oooing and ahhhing the fireworks. This was on the 3rd from the church parking lot.

Corban wanted to get down and lay down with Mike and Malia Riches during the fireworks show. It was really funny.

Amanda was trying to get Corban making noise. I had to encourage him at this point.

What a patriot.

Fun to have breakfast with the ward at 8 am on the 4th.

They had a blast together...and there weren't any injuries.

18 Months

Too bad I don't love writing. Corban gives me something to write about EVERYDAY! So now I have to think back and share some of the greatest moments. In no particular order, this is what this boy does to make me laugh...or at least smile: Bring my deodorant into his room while I am cleaning up the toys. He is sticking his finger in the little hole, and then wiping deodorant remnants on his forehead and hair. He laughs at himself as I start to laugh. I am told by Sorren Agle that there is honey on the floor (my Co-op day). I look right to my side (I have been standing at my laptop which is sitting on the bar counter) and there is a puddle of carmel, with little drips trailing away from it. I follow the trail and find Corban with a practically empty mini topping cup of carmel, carmel all over his fingers, on his clothes, and of course in the hair. Laughing and chattering as he has discovered the box of blocks. Interestingly enough, we had just been to the doctor's that morning and she asked how many blocks he can stack. Sadly I had no clue because we don't usually play with blocks since he didn't show interest 3-4 months ago. Ha! He showed me he can stack those blocks like no other :) He loves putting this orange bucket (came with bristle blocks) on his head and walking around. We call him our little alien because that is what it looks like. He has recently been amused by putting it on mommy or daddy's head. My favorite is when he gives us kisses with a bucket on one of our heads.
He also really enjoys putting a blanket over his head and walking around. Today he was reminding me of E.T. so I caught it on video but I can't get it to upload.
He LOVES playing outside, and the less clothes and adding water to the picture is ten times better!
While washing the windows today he took my squeegee away from me and played with it in his outside sink and fire pit. Then he got interested in my washing once I turned on the hose and was spraying them down. I don't know if he finally got cold, or if he was just dying to play in the water (daddy will let him play in the hose on the grass quite frequently), but he laid down on his belly, on the cement, looking somewhat like a beached whale. All was adorable until he started sucking up the water. That was NOT clean water.
For the first time, and hopefully the last, I came to wake Corban up from a nap and he was curled up, bum in the air, withOUT a diaper. This picture was taken after he was already awake and playing around in his crib.
